Sheep
Tex our Texel purebred ram will not be leaving.

He had a romance score lined up, where Tex was going on a holiday of ram swapping. BUT GASP! the deal changed. At the end of the romance Tex was to go in their pot.
No deal
 - swaps all off.

Tex has a lovely gentle nature (not that one should ever trust a ram). He is gentle to Molly goat and we are noticing her age rather fast. I'm pleased Tex is staying as I'd be heart broken to see a new ram challenge Molly. Watching the paddock antics, Molly is slowly loosing her matriarch position.  Tex has been daily stepping up, eating before Molly (once no one would ever of dreamed of eating before Molly).

With Tex staying it has caused a dilemma - his progeny all need to go in the pot now. The ewes we had thought of keeping will be his daughters. That just doesn't fit right with us. We never line bred out cats and don't plan to line bred the sheep. Real farmers are probably laughing at us hobby folk. The hunt begins to find some young ewes suitable for breeding with Tex. I'd quite like to get into rare breeds

Living off the land.
Gathering wood from top paddock. Brent always makes sure we have plenty of wood to burn in the winter

Bird watching...
We have resident hawks whom daily make me stop and watch their graceful flight. I'm rather fond of hawks, but they are one of my totem guides.

FarmStay Guests.

When Milo, Charles, Olly and Muddy were dropped off here, their families last words were they need to behave as the family did not wish to read of any misbehaving on the blog.

HUMP, can you see the hole that has been chewed in the new blanket? You can see broad daylight straight through it,

Here let us show you the hole- with a wiggly finger.

I was NOT pleased. However Brent laughed when I shared of the blatant vandalism.
Brent said he had warned me of my colour choices for the cattery and that he was just showing his contempt for the decor.

The culprit - Mr Baxter!
Baxter has a habit if stealing neighbours washing and bringing it home - I must ask if he has a history of chewing holes in it too..

The boys are offered dinner in the entry way - which enables me to lock them in there while I attend to Baxter's run. The boys are distracted as James is feeding the sheep and chickens - 4pm here is feeding time.

Mince was Milos firm favourite and got eaten first. Milo is on the left and is devouring it. I think Milo has his family on at home and often will not eat anything.

  1. I am glad you saved Tex once you knew their stew pot plans. Your cat visitors look happy, although one of them is a bit naughty tearing the hole.

  2. Terra, it is very hard not to get fond of the animals here - helps if they are not named. Tex will eventually no doubt end up in the pot, but not yet he is too young and a good healthy ram with many more years ahead. Molly our goat and Rory the rooster and his current girls are pets - they have the right of retirement at our place. So does Geraldine goose. And Gus the gander whom has a mutual dislike for me is safe only because Brent reminds me he was a birthday gift to Brent. I'd have gus the gander in the pot TODAY if I had my way - he scare the life out of me charging me.

    Yes very naughty Baxter!

    1. Jean Brent says Gus and my relationship is all my own fault - funny that as I had the same relationship with the previous gander.
James and his friend did the wood yesterday - I think most of James' friends know when they turn up here there is always one chore or two to do - it was transplanting tobacco seedlings the other day chuckle.

  4. I love hawks too and was excited to see your photo. I volunteer at a raptor rehab center and hawks are one of our most common birds to come in. I hope you post more hawk stuff as I love to learn about hawks and people's relations to them, Leanne :)

    1. Wendy we have hawks fly over us daily, I always stop and listen. It's the first good photo I have ever taken. When I grow up I hope to have a jazzy camera that will have the ability to zoom in and snap while animals/birds are moving.
